Sewing bedding does not have to be difficult. Using a basic pattern the first few times will give you an idea of how to get started and then your creativity can take over. The same pattern can look drastically different depending on the fabrics you use. The same patterns can even be suitable for boy’s bedding or girl’s bedding.

You could choose to make samples to show and photograph. Then offer different fabrics and make each order as a custom made order. The benefit of this is that you won’t have a lot of finished pieces laying around (waiting for your children to get them dirty.) The disadvantage is that you may get backed up with orders and not be able to turn them around in a reasonable time frame.

There are three main choices for selling your children’s bedding online.

1. Ebay – either with a store or individual auctions. You might have a larger audience.
2. Etsy – open a store and start participating within the community.  People shopping at Etsy stores are looking for quality handmade items.

Matching curtains – Complete a set by offering matching curtains to go with the bedding.

Nursery bedding – Stick to the little one’s. The smaller size bedding can mean cheaper supplies rather than sewing twin or full size products.

Fun throw pillows – Specialize in accent pillows. Include zippers, pockets and hiding places for maximum fun.

Lap blankets – Small snuggly blankets just right for a nap or a ride in the car.

Daycare nap blankets – Small sized blankets made special for daycare. (Hey we know daycare is dirty and things get lost.) Add some custom embroidery with the child’s name to help avert a crisis.

Focus on one of these – or offer a whole range of products!
